How to Remove Yourself From Spokeo

Spokeo compiles your name, age, addresses, phone numbers, and relatives into one profile page. The opt-out is free, it works, and it has one catch worth knowing before you start.

The steps

1. Find your listing. Search your name at spokeo.com and open the profile that is you; with a common name, match on age, current or past cities, and listed relatives before deciding. Copy its URL from the address bar. It looks like spokeo.com/First-Last/City/ST/p12345678.
2. Open the opt-out form at spokeo.com/optout.
3. Paste your listing URL, enter your email address, and click Opt Out.
4. Click the confirmation link Spokeo emails you. The request is not filed until you do.

What they ask for: the listing URL and an email address. No account, no payment, no phone number, no ID.

How long it takes: Spokeo's own page says 24 to 48 hours.

The catch

Each listing has its own URL, and each needs its own opt-out. If your name appears under two old addresses, that is two requests. Search yourself again after the first removal processes and repeat for anything left.

Spokeo also says plainly that your information “may reappear” in the future as new data comes in, and recommends checking back. Believe them: put a quarterly reminder in your calendar. If a removed listing returns or something goes wrong, their escalation contact is privacy@spokeo.com.

One more thing worth knowing: the old directory site AnyWho now shows Spokeo data, and its privacy pages route straight to Spokeo. A Spokeo opt-out is what clears an AnyWho result too.

What this does and does not do

The opt-out removes your profile from Spokeo's public search. It does not touch the public records Spokeo built it from, other people-search sites, or Google's cached copy of the page, which can linger for a few weeks on Google's own schedule.
